 Joy Engelman is a very collectible leading senior

Australian artist with a well developed career in the arts spanning all of her

lifetime. Highly awarded in Australia for her works, Joy has also received

international recognition and many invitations overseas. Engelman's work was

purchased by the Dept of Climate Change in 2007 and the work is currently

displayed at Parliament House in the Corporate Rooms of the Prime

Minister's Office. We are pleased to be the regional NSW representatives for

Joy's artworks and invite you to contact us for further information.

Artists Statement:

My works aim, not for a European accepted sensibility but rather to unsettle

the viewer, to unnerve the post-colonial mind of us, the 'settlers' and invite

discussion of just 'what we are becoming'.

Mapping the organic patterns of the landscape together with an exploration of

the marks of civilisation, allows connections to develop, and be understood.

From agriculture to mining, waterways to cities, mankind is now locked in an

increasing race with nature. Taking precious and finite elements from the

natural world, we consume and dispose of these products by burying or

dumping them back into the same environment, an unsustainable practice.

Despite 'settling' in Australia, and declaring our 'superiority', we stand by and

cheer on the rape and pillage of the oldest and most sacred of landscapes. I

am continually amazed and concerned by the number of roads, fence lines,

cattle yards, dams, ploughed fields, mining infrastructures etc that lay on top

of the land. They appear as a layer of 'marks' that bear no regard or

connection to the organic abstract layer of the natural flow of the ancient

landscape beneath them. We continue to have 200 years on from settlement,

a perilous disregard and lack of understanding of how the Australian land

works. We continue to impose European practices on this fragile land.

Growing up and living on an orchard, I connected deeply with the earth.

Inspired by the way indigenous artists 'see', I too want to fly and map this

place - but my love of Australia, even as a 'whitey' is continually affronted as I

find I am out of step with a greedy blind culture with a voracious appetite. I

can only express my concern through my art.

I want to challenge the idea of 'peaceful settlement' and instead express the

feeling that we have 'fallen asleep' in a modern society and this 'sleep' is

perilous.

The Australian landscape is my 'home' and it both delights my senses and

saddens me. Quite often as I view the large gaping wounds on Mother Earth, I

get quite depressed. These works are my way of externalising these worries.

"TWISTED RIVER" WINES COME TO JAYES

Opening on 31st May, 2013 at 3pm.  Twisted River Wines Cellar Door is now located at Jayes with wine tasting and sales.  Twisted River Wines is a boutique vineyard producing low yielding, high quality grapes.  The diverse geology of the area provides ideal soils for the grapes which include shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, chardonnay and viognier.  These
high elevation, cool climate wines are medium-bodied.

Following the opening there will be a night of wine, music by "Acoustic Trio" and woodfired pizza from Jayes famous woodfired oven.  Do come along but bookings are essential as numbers are limited.

"WHISPERING WIND"

A wonderful exhibition from Sally Watson opening on Saturday 11th May, 2013 at 2pm.

Jayes Gallery is pleased to be able to provide this opportunity to such a wonderful and inspiring artist.  This will be Sally’s second solo exhibition at the gallery. Meditation, Zen and solitude influence Sally’s work. Her images are abstracted, defining a move away from representational art.

This exhibition will delight the viewer and collector alike.

Marian's new works of Arabian horses, peacocks and other icons from the Middle East will delight you. Her works are wonderfully detailed and realistic but also encompass a degree of fantasy as is the tradition of the East. Her love of her subjects shine through in each artwork Marian produces.

This is the last solo show for Jayes Gallery for 2012 so make sure you don't miss this one! Opening on Saturday 13 October 2012 at 6 pm, we would love to see you at the gallery to enjoy the show, meet with the artists and participate in a delightful evening.

Michael Carroll's "Rurally Yours!" - bush snippets

Jayes is pleased to bring you Michael Carroll's collection of small inspired works on a bush theme.... there's line drawings of farm animals, little paintings, small works and much much more .... all executed with the unerring eye that we have come to associate with Michael.

The show opens on Saturday 2 July from 2 - 4 pm with Michael in attendance to answer your questions and generally talk about art. This is a celebration of life in the country with affordable works, all of which are individual pieces.

Jayes Director, Libby Oldham has been on the lookout for fresh new textures and inspiring works, so for an excellent afternoon of leisure and pleasure combined, why not join us at the gallery!

Contemporary Realist Landscapes by Denis Bradley

Our first solo show for the 2009 season will be from artist, Denis Bradley. Although this is Denis's first solo show, he is no newcomer to the arts with a long career spanning many years.

 

He has been included in many group exhibitions and is well established with a clear style of his own. His love of the land shines through these works to communicate his connection with 'place' to the viewer. Strong works, colourful and bold!

Denis is a local having grown up at "Jindalee" at Borenore so the influence of Mt Canobolas and the extraordinary landscape of this region was already well integrated within his artistic sensibility at a young age. Recent years have been spent around South Coast which has led him to a wider influence.

We invite you to the opening on Sunday 8 February at 2.30 in the Main Gallery or if you wish, you can share a lunchoen with Denis in the Cafe from 12.30 (bookings are essential for lunch though).

During 2009, we are looking forward to a very special year. During the last 6 months, we have been very busy rearranging the complex to a new direction.

Main gallery reserved for career and professional artists will run with a regular exhibition program of solo shows.....This is very exciting! We have some very special artists for you to view and invest in during 2009!

Smalls Gallery - will have a range of new and exciting young and adventurous artists with works from our stockroom. This gallery will changeover with our solo program of events.

Cafe Gallery - reserved for local artists - these are lovely works, affordable and great for gifts and special occasions.

Sculpture Garden - the new sculpture gardens at the rear of the galleries, is inviting and cool to walk around on a summer's afternoon.

Why not join us in 2009 for a coffee in the sculpture garden, a light lunch in the cafe or an evening meal with friends.
