"FEATHERING THE NEST"

A wonderful collection of new works from Josephine Jagger-Manners in which she examines how both birds and people are alike in creating secure and pleasing homes, how they ‘nest’. Libby Oldham, Gallery Director says “I am pleased to be able to provide this opportunity to such a wonderful and inspiring artist. Her works sit well within our current stable as Josephine has her own style which has developed out of a strong past of being influenced by the European Masters.”

Josephine’s use of colour is always vibrant and reflects her lifestyle.  Josephine enjoys painting what she sees as snippets of country life and domesticity.

For Josephine at present spending time painting from her home, surrounded by her large and prolific garden, truly is for her “Feathering the nest”

The exhibition “Feathering the next” opens on Sunday September 22nd, at 2pm.  Following the opening, there will be a scrumptious afternoon tea with Josephine a treat not to be missed. Bookings essential for the afternoon tea however all are welcome to the opening. See you on the day!

EXHIBITION OF NEW WORKS FROM JOY ENGELMAN

 "LAND / MARKS"

"An exploration of the organic nature of landscape and the marks man makes
upon it."

Exhibition opens 6.30pm Friday 19th July.

Jayes invites you to meet the artist and join us for dinner after the opening.  Bookings for dinner essential, please phone 02 6366 8810 to secure your place.

Joy Engelman is a very collectible leading senior
Australian artist with a well developed career in the arts spanning all of her
lifetime. Highly awarded in Australia for her works, Joy has also received
international recognition and many invitations overseas. Engelman's work was
purchased by the Dept of Climate Change in 2007 and the work is currently
displayed at Parliament House in the Corporate Rooms of the Prime
Minister's Office. We are pleased to be the regional NSW representatives for
Joy's artworks and invite you to contact us for further information.

Artists Statement:
My works aim, not for a European accepted sensibility but rather to unsettle
the viewer, to unnerve the post-colonial mind of us, the 'settlers' and invite
discussion of just 'what we are becoming'.
Mapping the organic patterns of the landscape together with an exploration of
the marks of civilisation, allows connections to develop, and be understood.
From agriculture to mining, waterways to cities, mankind is now locked in an
increasing race with nature. Taking precious and finite elements from the
natural world, we consume and dispose of these products by burying or
dumping them back into the same environment, an unsustainable practice.
Despite 'settling' in Australia, and declaring our 'superiority', we stand by and
cheer on the rape and pillage of the oldest and most sacred of landscapes. I
am continually amazed and concerned by the number of roads, fence lines,
cattle yards, dams, ploughed fields, mining infrastructures etc that lay on top
of the land. They appear as a layer of 'marks' that bear no regard or
connection to the organic abstract layer of the natural flow of the ancient
landscape beneath them. We continue to have 200 years on from settlement,
a perilous disregard and lack of understanding of how the Australian land
works. We continue to impose European practices on this fragile land.
Growing up and living on an orchard, I connected deeply with the earth.
Inspired by the way indigenous artists 'see', I too want to fly and map this
place - but my love of Australia, even as a 'whitey' is continually affronted as I
find I am out of step with a greedy blind culture with a voracious appetite. I
can only express my concern through my art.
I want to challenge the idea of 'peaceful settlement' and instead express the
feeling that we have 'fallen asleep' in a modern society and this 'sleep' is
perilous.
The Australian landscape is my 'home' and it both delights my senses and
saddens me. Quite often as I view the large gaping wounds on Mother Earth, I
get quite depressed. These works are my way of externalising these worries.

"SEED AND DRIFT"

Exhibition of Paintings and drawings by Nina Machielse Hunt

Opens: Friday 22nd March 2013 at 6pm

Jayes is pleased to introduce this emerging artist in her first solo exhibition at the gallery.  Nina Machielse Hunt gives a fresh insight into the land and sea.

Nina says of her work “I do love being alone in the landscape; walking, sitting, thinking, feeling and absorbing it. More aspects are revealed the longer one looks, actual, imagined or desired. To look and simply breath is my meditation and is becoming a cherished luxury.
I also enjoy drawing en plein air, however I use these scribbles essentially as a spring board and the initial observation tends to shift in the studio. Through the cycle of application and rubbing back and application again the painting eventually takes on its own life.

With this body of work I have tried to achieve a cohesive balance where each painting is operating on several levels, formally and intuitively. Invariably there is an element of abstraction”.

The Seed – A symbol of endurance, surviving incredible hardship.
To Drift – To move continuously through to the present.

Fine Day for Opening of Sculpture Show!

Despite the prediction of a cold day, the opening of Jayes Annual Sculpture Show, the THIRD Dimension was pleasant and fine. Art lovers were introduced to Moody's Wines with Tony Moody sharing his fine wines on the day, Alan Sisley, Regional Gallery Director from Orange capably opened the show likening the sculptures to 'frozen music', an analogy that gave us all something to think about while looking at the 3D works on show.

Art lovers and collectors were delighted with performances from budding young musicians from Molong Public School. The gallery is becoming quite the cultural heart of the area with many different art forms being encouraged throughout the year.

With an ongoing calendar of monthly solo shows, music events and the annual scultpure show, you can keep abreast of the gallery's latest offerings by subscribing to our monthly newsletter. The gallery is open Wednesday through to Sunday each week, from 10 - 4. We look forward to seeing you in Molong! It's always warmer here in the west.

The Feminine Aspect in Art for September (Spring!)

Quite often we come across art that seduces the viewers. This will be the experience when the next exhibition goes on display at Jayes Gallery in Molong in Spring.

We are pleased to be able to bring to you, two beautiful exhibitions by two very feminine and complementary artists. The Yin (feminine force) of life is expressed very clearly in the works of both of these regional and rurally based artists as they express the landscapes they live in. Both respond to the forces of creation and seek to express the numinous in their works. Working in acrylics and oils lusciously applied to canvas, the sensuality of life itself can be found by scrutinizing the generous brush strokes of these two women.

Aida’s work emerges out of the landscape in a subconscious recognition of how the earth gives birth, nurtures, sustains and eventually reclaims the life on it.

She says of her work “I work in a variety of mediums including oils acrylics and ink and while working with a particular location in mind I am not bound by an exact recreation – I prefer to let intuition and the medium dictate what happens on the surface, exploring images which arrest the eye and are arrived at spontaneously.

Working from life and landscape as a jumping off point. I like to push the source material to capture an atmosphere or mood - visually echoing memories and emotions. This work is inspired by the elements of weather seen at dawn.”

The ever-changing landscape of Lucy’s immediate environment and the movement of life itself forms inspiration for her artworks. These pieces have are containments of the motion of life’s forces and each can be used as a mantra, a meditation of energy and creation.

"Everywhere I turn there are endless opportunities to create a moment of stillness from the energy and beauty of life."

The exhibition opens Sunday 11 September at 2 pm at Jayes Gallery in Molong, just a short 20 minute drive west of Orange in Central NSW. We invite you to join us on the day and meet with the artists.

Don't miss this intriguing show! "ALCHEMY" runs to 5 June!

Fresh Artists from Fresh Arts Inc
There's nothing quite as electric as standing in a room full of artists and the opening of  of "Alchemy" didn't let us down! A room full of smiles and laughter, made the day more than worthwhile.

The variety of ideas behind the works lead you to ponder just how many ways there are of 'seeing' a particular subject. Each artist has provided a statement with the works and these are indeed well worth taking the time to read to gain an insight into the mind of each artist as they have tackled this mysterious subject.

The show will be up until 5 June, so if you haven't been to the gallery here in Molong, then take some time to drive out today!
